Minister’s Message . . . 20th June, 2025
From Rev John Orr . .
This week I was able to donate blood for the first time in a long while. Prohibited medication and diary clashes have been the main culprits preventing me from attending, so I was glad when I was able to book an appointment this time. Donating blood is one of these activities that we do with no real knowledge of the outcome. In general terms we certainly know that blood donations are needed, and often of life-saving importance. We never know whether it is our donation that has made a difference, or how. The information leaflet says that the majority is used on patients, and some is used for research, training, and other purposes. Yet, if we are able, we make the donation trusting that it will bring benefit to others however it might be used.
Our recent Sunday services have had a very broad theme of mission, and part of the task we are called to do is to show that we are followers of Jesus. We do that through our actions or through our words and advice, and, very often, we don't always know if our words or deeds have made any difference. Perhaps we can take heart from Paul's advice that some are called to plant, others to water, and yet others to gather the harvest. It is God who provides the growth though. We offer our sacrifice of words and deeds to God and trust God to work in the life of others through our actions. There will be moments when we hear of how we have made a difference to someone. There will be many more times when we are left wondering if we said or did the correct thing. As always, we place our trust in God and continue to serve as we are able.
Prayer . . .
Gracious God,
Even as we wonder if we are being faithful and true, You take all we offer and work for the growth of your kingdom.
We give thanks that we are part of that work, And that even with our failings and doubts, you can use us in your service.
May that bring us comfort and encouragement.
May we continue to serve with faithful and trusting hearts.
Amen
